Adjective
1. Of or relating to the earth; terrestrial; geological.
Origin
1. Mid 18th century; earliest use found in Samuel Johnson (1709–1784), author and lexicographer. Probably originally a misapprehension of geotic, variant of (or error for) goetic, but taken by Johnson in the sense ‘of or belonging to the earth’ by association with geo-, and hence used contextually.
