2. The female reproductive structure (oogonium) of a charophyte.
Origin
1. Early 19th century; earliest use found in John Lindley (1799–1865), botanist and horticulturist. From French nucule from classical Latin nucula a small or young nut from nuc-, nux nut + -ula.
